Garda

Garda is one of the most beloved destinations of the so called Riviera degli Ulivi.

The town is nestled in an enchanting and suggestive cove of the Veronese shore of lake Garda, with the Rocca on one side, a moraine hill with a unique majestic shape and Mount Luppia on the other that finely frames the horizon.

Garda is the town that gave its name to the whole lake, in past times called Benàcusor Benàco.

The name Garda comes from the German word warte (guard, lookout) and refers to the fortress located on the Rocca hill, which in Medieval times was one the main observation points of the area.

The small peninsula of San Vigilio lies in the north-east corner of the cove, at the last end of Mount Luppia slope. This is one of the most enchanting destinations of the lake: a tiny hamlet with a little private church, a mansion, a picturesque harbor and the magnificent Baia delle Sirene (Mermaid Bay).

Despite the many private mansions and villas, with its historic centre Garda still retains the charm of a medieval village with small colorful buildings and mazes of narrow alleys leading to the harbor square.

Here you can take the most amazing and suggestive lakeside walk of the whole area and the town harbor, that hosts the traditional fishing boats, is a most beloved photographic subject.

The town of Garda is the perfect destination for all daydreamers who are eager to admire the breathtaking surrounding scenery and enjoy sunsets on the lake every day of the year, with their unique colours and shades.
